Wittenburg Germany—in the city where Martin Luther lived and studied, a Luther garden is forming. The idea is to have all the worldwide Lutheran congregations plant a tree in the garden, so that by the 500 year anniversary of the reformation (October, 2017) all would be represented there. Our outside-Latvia congregations board (LELBĀL) met in Wittenberg in September and planted a tree in this garden—a mountain ash. The Wittenberg mountain ash will also have sister trees planted in Rowfant, England and Washinton D.C. Our Seattle congregations board, together with the Seattle Latvian Centers board have responded to the invitation to also plant a tree on our property. Sunday, October 31st, after the Reformation Sunday service please join us in planting this reminder of our church’s origins – our tree will also be a mountain ash.
