Dear friends,
This video comes with many good wishes for a cool 4th of July! Having endured the extraordinary heat wave of the past week-end, let us rejoice in the cloud cover of this morning!
Because the video was made a couple of weeks ago, you won’t be hearing anything about the heat that was so much on our minds. Instead—we look back—way back!—to the wisdom of our ancestors in faith. To tell a story that is very much our story as well—of faith, of hope in the Lord—and above all, of love. The steadfast love of God—in which we too live our lives. This is the story we are blessed to share—and carry forward. All of us—together! With God’s help!!

Mīļie draugi—mīļās māsas un brāļi!
Ir pagājuši 80 gadi kopš pirmajām izvešanām 1941. g. 14. jūnijā. Ilgus gadus, mēs trimdinieki bijām vienīgie, kuri tās drīkstēja atklāti pieminēt. Šogad, šajā dienā, mēs latvieši visā pasaulē—no Rīgas līdz Austrālijai, no Amērikas rietumu krasta līdz Zviedrijas Baltijās jūras krasta—esam vienoti. Pieminēšanā—solījumā—mēs jūs neesam aizmirsuši un neaizmirsīsim.
Izsūtot šo video—ceru, ka izjutīsim šo vienotību, kas iet pāri ģeogrāfiskām robežām—ka, arī nebūdami vienuviet, varam būt kopā. Lūgšanās. Cerībā. Mīlestībā. Dievā.
Svētbrīdi mēs dzirdēsim Irīnas Ratušinskas dzejoli. Viņa ir uzrakstījusi grāmatu, Pelēkais – cerību krāsa, par savu laiku Sibīrijā, izsūtījumā, kur viņa iepazinās un sadraudzējās ar Lidiju Lasmani. Prof. Guntis Šmidchens laipni sazinājās ar dzejnieku Kārli Vērdiņu, kurš vairākus Ratušinskas dejoļus ir tulkojis latviski—sirsnīgs paldies, Gunti, ka vienu no tiem ļāvi mums dzirdēt ierakstā! Tāpat liels paldies Imantam Šmidchenam, par saksafona solo, kā arī par dzejas/mūzikas ierakstīšanu video.
Liels, jo liels paldies Dr. Āndrim Āboliņam par ērģeļu improvizācijām! Un, par altāra ziediem, pieminot aizvestos, sirsnīgs paldies Līvijai un Edvīnam Circeņiem, kā arī mūsu ērģelniekam Andrim!

The fifth Sunday of Easter, in the Latvian Church calendar is called Jubilate—Rejoice! So, it is with gladness that we send this video worship service—in English this time.
Our Scripture reader this week is Aleks Zommers (who just turned 11). His father, Pauls Zommers shoots and edits our videos, and his uncle Andrejs Zommers places them on the internet—a joyous Paldies! Paldies! Paldies! to team Zommers! And—an additional PALDIES to Dr. Andris Āboliņš, for his inspired improvisations on hymn tunes, as well as for the flowers that he brought to grace our altar. Then—a happy thank-you to Ēriks Raisters, who sends our videos to your e-mail box—and to you, dear friends, who watch them :-)!
We ask for your patience while we figure out how to balance our video and in person services. This month, in addition to this week’s video, you will be getting two more from the Latvian Church Worldwide—on Mother’s Day (May 9th), from Canada and from the Midwestern district on Pentecost (May 23rd). After that, hopefully, we will be able to set up a regular schedule that we all can rely on.
In the latest news from the Church synod that took place last week—we have a new leadership team, pictured below, starting with top left: Sandra Kalve (Milwaukee), Kārlis Veilands (San Francisco), Māc. Igors Safins (Boston), Māc. Aija Graham (Kalamazoo), Andris Celcherts (Cleveland), Ingrīda Jansons (New York), Māc. Ģirts Grietiņš (Toronto), Vija Ūdenāns (Washington D.C), Archbishop Lauma Zušēvica, and, last but certainly not least, Prāv. Anita Vārsbergs Pāža—the new president of LELBA.

Easter Sunday the word went out – Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
This Sunday we will be resuming in person Worship services, which we are all longing to do. However, for those who aren’t able to come to church—either because you haven’t been able to get vaccinated yet, or for some other reason—we will still be making video services. Just not every week. I ask for your patience while we learn to use this “hybrid” form of worship. For those of you who are members of the Seattle, Oregon or Vancouver congregations—you will receive notices of the videos from Ēriks Raisters. For those who are subscribers to YouTube, please check to see if you are signed up for notification.
Today’s video is in Latvian. Our readers, Lisa and Andris Pružinskis also brought the lovely flowers for the altar—thank-you, Lisa and Andri!
